Raising funds and doing volunteer work for Charitable Events is the fundamental focus of the Legion. These are events or initiatives that benefit communities in some form or another.

TROOPING - Trooping involves volunteers making sure events are successful from concept to archive while remaining "in character" for the fans. It involves tons of volunteer hours and logistics planning for events, building Star Wars sets, and hosting the events. It is the "how-to" of bringing the Star Wars universe to the fans.
The main purpose of the 501st Legion is to positively contribute to charitable events by bringing the Star Wars universe to the fans through screen accurate representations of the costumes seen in the various movies, animated series, live action series and graphic literature.
Matching fabrics, sewing styles, textures and even making silicone molds can be part of the costume building skills.
You cannot tell a Star Wars story without the props that surround and give life to the characters in that universe! Props add to the look and feel of the characters and costumes we see in all the movies, animated series, live action series, and graphic literature.
In the star Wars universe, props have a "lived-in" look. One of the most creative skills to be learned in "Prop Building" is how to take one item and make it into another. If you think its easy, try to find the 1970's hair dryer for your Vibro Axe or the women's gillette shaver for your comm link!
The 501st Legion Costume Reference Library (CRL) is the definitive resource for building and getting official screen accurate costumes approved for wearing at official charity events.
While you can find the entire list on the Legion pages, here we will keep just the official ones currently within the Utila Outpost.
Utila Outpost is LIVE so now let's get busy!
This section will provide aids and references for both Troopers and Handlers. Troopers are the costumers themselves and the Handlers are non-costumed members/ volunteers who are accountable for the Troopers during the event. Handlers make the difference between successful events and damaged assets or injured Troopers. Trooping events requires a smooth coordination between Troopers and their Handlers - its a delicate balance to ensure the fans AND Troopers have a great Star Wars experience.
The 501st Legion prides itself on ensuring that costumes are "screen accurate". That means everything is replicated exactly as seen on the approved references (whether movies, animated shows, streaming series, or literature in all its forms. This means sourcing or finding suitable replicas of what is seen, read or portrayed in live action.
This section will be dedicated to tips and tricks for Star Wars costume building. This will include: materials and fabrics, tools and techniques, or any other "how-to" references to enhance costume building skills.
