WE ARE LIVE
Utila Outpost, is a new venture on the island of Utila, in the Bay Islands (Honduras). We are a small volunteer group dedicated to providing our fans a Star Wars experience while doing our part to contribute to value added charity initiatives locally. We are part of the 501st Legion - Volunteer Star Wars Costume builders who are dedicated to bringing our fans the most screen accurate costumes and props available. As we grow, we plan to offer prop building workshops, Star Wars info sessions and even Star Wars nights at local businesses. Come and see what island life has to offer...Star Wars style!
501st Legion - "bad guys doing good things"
Utila Outpost logo has several local elements in it. The colours represent the Honduran flag (blue banners sandwiching a white banner and 5 stars. The mountains are the skyline view of mainland Honduras 25km away from Utila. The orange represents the Utila Ferry that services the island. The MU-2 is a scout version of the Lambda class shuttle.
Utila Outpost founders, Mark Scharf and Sonia Mangano, are originally from Ottawa, Canada and were members of the 501st Legion Capital City Garrison (since 2014). The goal was to carry on that Canadian tradition of bringing Star Wars costuming, prop building, and "touch and feel" experience to the island community AND helping out where we can.
Our goal is to take ideas like Star Wars concept art (our original concept logo) and "what if" ideas in the Star Wars universe and transpose them into real life, with an island flare. Bringing screen accurate prop building and concept art craft building into the community means learning new skills and having fun while doing it.
Sonia and I work together, build together and coordinate charity events and star wars charity initiatives to provide a "in universe" Star Wars experience for our participants and our fans alike. We have been doing this "officially" since 2014 with the 501st Legion but I have been a Star Wars junkie since 1977 when I first saw it in theatres in Ottawa, Canada.
Starting out so be patient, drop us a line, start a conversation.
drop us a line IF you are looking to host a charity event on the Islands
